Spied Thursday, February 23, this plucky crocus, a sign of sunny optimism and a result of February temperatures running 7 degrees above average.   Crocus may be my favorite flower, if only because they are so cheerful a reminder that winter is coming to an end.  But crocus in FEBRUARY?  Really?

The mercury reached 59 degrees in central Connecticut.  Trees are budding.  Spring allergies are already making an appearance, a month ahead of their usual place on the calendar.

Friday, February 24:  Snow on forsythia.

To paraphrase one of our most famous residents: If you don’t like the weather here, wait 15 minutes.

The first crocus, so early, a telling of things to come..but wait! snow? I still loved the crocus! I am cheered!

Winter is a cruel mistress … I’d like for the weather to have sorted itself out. But it hasn’t, so I hope that you are enjoying the warmer days.
